I wonder the same, but here's the passage I was referring to....

"As befits a top-quality camera, the finish, like that of the OM-4, comprises
a double layer of matte black paint over black chrome plating. The result is
unusual durability in use."

Porsche and Leica have used black chrome for years as a beautiful and tough alternative to black paint. You get a finish from the texture in the surface, just like with a regular chrome finish. Why in heaven would you cover the black chrome with paint?
