I went for an eye test and the optometrist said my eyes were borderline for
driving - that was my reason for getting them fixed. They were particularly
bad for night driving with the flare and fact that the eyes were working at
a large aperture at night.

Subject: Re: [OM] Cataract Surgery
Thanks guys. I'm told that at my current rate of progression, that I should
have them done in the next 2-3 years.
The standard "clouds at night" around headlights and streetlights is
obviously there, but what I've really noticed is how much "loss of contrast"
I've experienced with the computer monitors. And since I do screen time for
work and pleasure 12+ hours a day, that's what bothers me most. Next month
I'm going back for another eye exam and I'll get an official update on their
status.
So, one really strange thing about the cats... I perform in the
club/festival scene. And of course that means lasers. Lots and lots of
lasers, moving lights, LED video walls, etc. The cataracts give me clouds of
sparkles. If I'm out in the dance floor area all I see looking towards the
stage is colorful sparkles. Depending on what brand/model of LED video wall
is used, I can have issues with flickering and color clouds as I'm trying to
mix on the CDJs. The new CDJ-3000X decks are a LOT better than the older
CDJ-3000 decks. The screen technology is vastly different. But still, the
glare is absolutely horrid. There are reasons why EDM DJs and performers
almost always wear baseball caps or mouse-shaped helmets. I have one 1980's
"Big Hair" wig that I can wear that helps. It also helps if the gig is
getting video recorded or projected on big screens because we have fill
lights that keep our faces lit. The glare from them is horrible, but at
least it helps mask the flickering of the LED lights and walls.
With these eyeballs of mine, it's either normal cataract clouds or fields of
sparkles.
I have invested into club ownership and a production company, so I really
have nobody to blame but myself. :)
Given my "advancing years" and also a renewed interest in photography again,
unless I experience a major breakout, I'll probably wind down most of the
performing at the end of the year other than a handful of select events. It
also depends on if I manage to get a "residency" in another country. Like
Australia. I got into the top 5% income tier, and that was with 168 gigs in
a single year (in addition to my full-time job). The extreme burnout hit me
hard. The reality is that I'm only doing a handful this year anyway.
Speaking of photography... I've jumped bigly into drone photography.
