Similar to a more sticky post-it-note. The image portion itself was pristine,
as well as the socket hole edges. I believe the method was one that was machine
applied at the end of the processing and saved time in not having to insert the
negs into either sleeves or sleeved pages.
Yes! The moment I saw the photo, with the obvious plastic protective cover, I recognized it as something I've seen
before. I thought at first it was a protective sleeve, but your description sounds correct.
I believe the secondary purpose was to allow copies/enlargements without handling the neg itself. The automated printer
held the very thin plastic flat and exposed without removing it. The semi-circular cuts at the bottom, exactly in the
center of each frame, are for auto printer registering. You feed the stick in, tell the printer how many of which
frame(s), in which size(s) to print and they automagically come out soon.
