It's simple math, my friend. Your flash is what? GN 54 (ISO 100) at
telephoto setting? ISO 1600 (or even 800) will give you gobs of power
from just about any distance inside that auditorium provided you
aren't trying to shoot at F11 or something.
Of course, if you really wanted to make a statement, use a T45 flash.
It's ONLY a GN 45 flash, but that's at wide-ange coverage. Throw that
upward to the ceiling, let it go full-blast and you'll be golden.
