Actually, I used mine a LOT with no grip and it fit my tiny hands perfectly.
Still miss using it.

Twenty or so years ago I almost bought a Hasselblad. I was warned off
because of the cost of service which at that time was substantially
more than the Mamiyas. Otherwise, there would have been no issues
going that direction. I would use them periodically when shooting for
other people who had them, (second shooter situation), but also found
that unless they had a grip attachment I really didn't care for the
ergonomics. Every person is unique in this aspect, though. My hands
just have a hard time holding square boxes, I guess.

But the image quality and reliability really was special. It was
recommended that the bodies get regular CLA servicing, but otherwise
they weren't a problem. It was not unusual to see bodies and film
backs that had grooves worn in from the film passing through. I was
shown one body that had over 2 million photographs taken with it and
it was retired literally because of the wear. It still worked, but
nothing was tight.

The Mamiyas are also incredibly reliable machines and seem to stand up
to CLA neglect well.
