When it comes to my "camera for hire" work, I live and die by my zoom lens.
Event and wedding coverage is very well served by the outstanding 14-54 zoom
on my E-1. Back in the film days, my unilens was the Tokina ATX 35-70/2.8.
But this is an aweful lot like vehicles: The family vehicle might be an
8-passenger minivan, but the vehicle of choice is the sportscar.

An OM body with the 35/2.8 is my ideal "go anywhere" kit. Oh, if I'm
feeling tough, I'll pack the 100/2.8 as a second focal length. But usually
what happens is that whatever lens happens to be mounted is the one that
stays in use.

Zooming with the feet is ok, and possessing the skillset to be able to do it
is important. Skillsets DO REQUIRE PRACTICE, however. But having the
skillset doesn't necessarily mean using it in every situation. This becomes
a wise pick-choose your situation.
