Ssshhh! Don't interrupt the glow from the Jobs kool-aid.

A lot of people have made a LOT of money from proprietary hardware and
software systems. Gates, Allen, Ballmer, Grove, Jobs, McNeely and oh, so
many others that don't spring immediately to mind. Jobs move in taking
Unix proprietary is simply breathtaking. I'm in awe. Who else could
completely change hardware and software platforms while remaining
entirely proprietary - without skipping a beat.

That may sound like sarcasm, but seriously, the man is a business genius.

When I use my Win box, I'm paying for one proprietary monopoly*. Those
running dual OSs on Apple boxes get the privilege of paying for three,
plus the emulator(s). Don't deny them their fun.

I've been playing with and using computers long enough to be something
of a pragmatist. For several years and up to date, there are no
applications exclusive to the Mac that do anything that I need any
better than those for windoze, while the reverse is not true**. And a
windoze box is cheaper. Were the reverse(s) true, I'd be perfectly happy
to pay Steve instead of Bill for my computing needs.

Bless anyone who feels better for their choice of anything they buy,
including hardware and software. But anyone who thinks Apple is any
purer than MS should take a look at the MP3 player market. Steve will no
more give up his vast majority of that market without bloodshed than
Bill will give up his positions in OS and office application software.
If Apple had won and controlled 80+ % of the small computer OS AND
hardware market, which is the way they chose to go at it, we would all
be paying something like twice as much for our computing.

The I Ching is right, "no blame" - but also, no difference.

* On the assumption that AMD makes it a slightly non proprietary,
non-monopoly market for the processor.

** Disclaimer: I still make some of my income in retirement programming
for Windoze.
