I spent a bit of time inspecting the lens again yesterday during the day
and last night with a torch.

there seems to be a few issues, all of which to be fair to the seller
could have passed unoticed, though i suspect he knew.

the front element has light brownish spots 2 to 3 mm on the inside of
the glass, these can only be seen in natural daylight and only at
certain angles, I suspect these would dissapear if the sun shined long
enough on it.

the rear element has the dreaded clouding, there is a quater moon shaped
area that is clear and the rest is cloudy, there seems to be a second
layer slightly further from the rear elememt that is showing signs of
tendrils starting at the side.

If you have a quick look through from the rear in natural light then you
only see that the filters are a bit dirty and it looks clear.

I have had no reply from the seller, but its low down on my list of
concerns and priorities at the moment. As he is not quick to respond I
guess he is reluctant to do so, but I will give him the benefit of my
doubt and assume he is just away from his email.

On a more promising note our newborn son is making good progress, he is
not out of the woods yet, but he has taken the right path
