It's the same here in NC, they even have a standard $26 "average" use tax
figure that pops up when you e-file your taxes. Which at our rates is less
than $400 spent on mailorder/online stuff per year. When was the last year
any of us spent less than $400 on stuff that got shipped to us? ;) And yes I
do believe that it applies to stuff you bought on e*ay...

California is actually telling people that they need to declare items bought
over the Internet on their state income tax and pay the equivalent CA sales
tax, or some such nonsense. I fail to see how they could ever hope to
enforce such a provision.

So if you drive to New York, buy a camera, drive home, then open the box in
Georgia you owe sales tax to Georgia? (and probably New York) Reminds me of

Nearly 30 years ago I received a letter along with the rototiller that came
from New York, that although the company doesn't collect taxes for the state
of California, that I am obligated to pay the appropriate taxes. IRRC
California had been pushing to get everyone anywhere in the U.S. to collect
the taxes before shipping. They didn't succeed :) -jeff
