The shutter is closed. I can see the dappled pattern when I take off the lens.

Usually if the shutter is locked "open", pushing the meter switch up to
"reset" will not have an affect. It will only reset the shutter if mirror
is up, shutter not open (pattern showing).
Shutter lock can be caused by alkaline or lithium batteries. Shutter "open" is another set of problems, sometimes caused by bad brushes or a bad ASA
ceramic.
