Agreed, Moose, that the tests conducted in a UV-light environment cut the longevity figures considerably for unprotected color prints on Epson's Velvet Fine Art Paper (upwards of 25 years); projections climb dramatically when prints are coated with protective finishes--going on 125 years!

Interestingly, tested at 275 lux daily average hours of UV, uncoated B&W prints still seem to hold up quite well, with projections over set @ 91/107 years for color/black ink settings, (prints on Epson's Enhanced Matte Paper w/Matte Black ink, with note claiming paper yellows considerably over test period.)

I don't know, but all in all the performance of Epson's new line of Ultrachrome inks seems not too shabby--they would appear to beat the pants off much of the competition out there, to include tests using the Canon S9000 and the Epson 1270/1280 machines using manufacturer OEM inks.

I would certainly agree with Livick that based on these results that tests performed mainly under florescent-lighting conditions are not to be taken seriously.

All you folks who believe the 2200 to be archival should read this <http://www.drycreekphoto.com/PrintTest/PrintTest.htm> and the links to details on it. I've never even seen one, and make no personal judgements. I'm just passing on what my research turned up. On the other hand, I'm pleased at the showing the 1280 is making so far, as my 1270 uses the same inks.

The 2200, with it's UltraChrome pigment inks, is the most archival OEM printer on the market today. There's one (or it's successor) in my future, hopefully this year if I can make room for it. The 6-color ink set comes in individual cartridges, which saves a lot on replacements. I've seen prints from it, and they're magnificant; perhaps not as punchy as those on glossy from a 1280, but I'd rather have 990f the quality for many times the lifetime.
