Thanks for the reminder of that excellent review, Frank, I second your
recommendation - I could remember "schlacht" but not the rest of the
website address!

Of interest from that site, as also from the Fuji-X focused site I
linked to a few days ago, is that "decoding" is not really a question
of digital encryption at all. "Fully decoded" batteries should have a
thermistor to duplicate the OEM battery (to monitor the temperature of
the battery during charging). Some aftermarket batteries make do with
a resistor, which fools the camera into thinking that the battery has
a thermistor fitted - but provides no temperature monitoring at all.
Other aftermarket batteries don't bother at all!
