A guy I work with here is familiar with the problem and a resolution.
He suggested building a new tank out of sheets of carbon fiber using
the existing tank as a form.

Then he suggested doing the same with some of the sheet metal...
Figured we could knock a thousand pounds off the car without too much
effort.
