Yup - I had the radiator expansion tank crack on my 5-series. Hard to
diagnose too. Started overheating on vacation (during that VERY hot summer
- 2003? when all the French grannies died of the heat) and took it into
the local dealer near Verbier (Switzerland). They back-flushed the system,
pressure-washed the radiator fins, checked the system pressure, checked all
the belts, and found nothing. And that's also what they charged :-) Had
to drive back from Switzerland to Belgium stopping at every service
station. Traded it in with the fault still there (sorry).
But otherwise it was ultra-reliable.
