Just in case anyone was curious...I ended up buying neither of these 3
lenses. Instead, I found a used 50-200mm, but not the new version,
from a trusted source in Boston and picked it up for $550. It is now
on its way to Florida and will be smuggled over to me in a couple of
weeks.

In the end, I decided that quality was more important than a 350 gram
weight difference. I was concerned about the softness at full aperture
visible in the 70-300mm test images posted on the web. I shoot at or
near full aperture most of the time.

Cheers,
Nathan
