Perhaps it's because your version of SF is specifically for your
Epson? Mine, for example, is specifically for a Polaroid SS4000 on a
PC. Lasersoft will be happy to sell you a version for your Minolta.
It will cost about 12x as much as Vuescan, which can be used with
anything, and you will pay for each subsequent upgrade.
Silverfast has a certain mystique or panache which may come from the
fact that no one can afford to use it universally.
