Yes and no. An individual film grain disolves away when not
enough exposure has been given to it. However, as in any
disolving process, the grain may get smaller as it approaches
the threshold.

Also, there is the minor issue of grain clumping, grain
migration (why did the grain cross the road?) and other things
that happen during development. It's not quite as simple as he
made it out to be.

When it comes to "edge" resolution, most films will "out
resolve" digital. There are many exceptions, but a photograph
of a high contrast edge will actually be tighter with film.
However, you run into other problems with film, such as lateral
halation (Fuji slide films), shutter vibrations, etc. Digital
sensors do not suffer from lateral halation beyond the nearest
neighbor being used in the Bayer array.

For 99% of the photographers in this world, digital produces
better results. For the 1% that also are experts in film
techology and technique, it's a draw.
