This has been my experience too.  It's sooooo easy to lens test
with a digital camera.

I found that my 200/4 is outstanding at certain F-stops and
DISTANCES!!!  At the same F-stop but different distances it
really goes to pot.  Other lenses, like the 35/2 and 100/2.8
work any any setting.
