The worst thing about the manuals is the constant reference to
a bunch of part numbers, and then having to go back to the
pictures to figure out which part they are talking about. After
attempting to remove the winder upper screw (very carefully,
with a rubber stopper), I've decided that it's in my (and the
cameras) best interest to leave this to a professional.

I think that some of the other posters response confirm what I have
sortave figured out.  The needle moves in response to the dials,
but not to light. I now have to make some decisions as to what to
do with the camera.  At this point, I'm tempted to send it in for
an "overhaul", have the leatherettes replaced so as to remove the
MD badge, and then either use the thing, or sell it.
