Shift lenses ...
Got my first shift lens after taking too many bad pictures in Yosemite.
I wouldn't think of leaving them home if I were taking pictures in a
canyon. My recent trip to Zion Canyon reminded me how helpful they are.
Also don't forget a hat.
Sounds like a great trip. If you can, take more time.

Hmm... how does a shift lens help in Yosemite/Canyon? Assuming a 35/shift if it makes a difference.

It's not just an architectural lens. Use your imagination with perspective control. The early landscape shooters used huge technical cameras with all the adjustments, shift being a major one. Primarily, it allows moving the horizon line without messing up major landscape object perspectives, but it can also be used to place a prominent object, including a vanishing point, at "rule of thirds" locations in the image, while maintaining a specific perspective of other objects. I've been using one for some of my landscape shots for some time.
