I recently took the plunge and purchased a refurbished Palm Pilot direct
from Palm.com. It is working just fine.

Just to balance that. Many "refurbished" electronic items are just
returned items because of buyer's remorse, open box items, etc. with
nothing wrong with them. On the other hand, many times, refurbishment
consists in labelling the box as such, and giving a short warranty to
get things fixed that don't work out of the box. The old practice
of disassembling the camera and remanufacturing it as Leica did years
ago is a thing of the past.
