Andrew,

sorry if I misunderstood your post your post. I believe you are correct about
the
non-verbal communication. This makes it important that we all take a deep breath
and carefully consider our replies and how we word them (this is a general
statement to the list and not intended as a criticism of you or anyone in
particular.) Phrases that normally would not be a big deal can become quite
inflammatory w/o the non-verbal cues.

I still feel that e-mail does have a 'tone' (or whatever one wants to call it),
just as a novel, poem or any other writing does. Unfortunately, it may well be a
'tone' we did not intend. This of, course leads to misunderstandings. Hopefully
we
can all learn from this and be a bit more careful in our responses.

As for your ethical dilemma, I don't quite see what the problem is, your moral
and
ethical imperative is to grab the stuff, tell them that you will sell what you
can
and get as much for it for them, noting of course that the old outdated Olympus
stuff has no value. You then give this stuff away to list members at no profit
to
your self. :)

Seriously look at the stuff appraise ALL of it to the best of your ability and
explain possible sale methods and their pros & cons. If there is any Oly stuff
let
them know that you may have a personal interest, and what you are willing to
offer, pointing out that other channels for sale may be more profitable.

As I own a bicycle shop I am often approached by friends and relatives with
requests to sell used bicycles. I explain to them that I am happy to do this,,
but
I expect to make a profit if I do so, and that they could possibly make more
money
doing it on their own. I then let them decide how they want to proceed.
