The mat I have been using is a dark olive green. Another I have is an
annoying blue on one side and annoying green on the other.
If you can be bothered, the foam can be covered with cloth. Again, a glue
gun seems to do the job very well and avoids needle and thread.
I recently lined a small case, and made dividers, with foam covered with
a dark green velour. The result is rather pleasing. This of course is to
house OM gear.
