Actually, the above statement can be made for just about anything.
Take computers (both hardware and software), changes are happening
so fast that the legacy hardware bought last year may no longer
work in the latest new systems available now!

Anyway, back to Olympus: In the Dec. 20, 1999 issue of EE Times,
there was an article about the wearable PC from Olympus:

Olympus Demos Wearable Computer Technology by Yoshiko Hara
Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. has demonstrated a monocular face-
mounted display and a finger-set input for wearable computing.

Olympus president Masahiro Kishimoto said the technology is
one of five areas in which the company is focusing. Speaking
at a corporate technology fair here to commememorate the
company's 80th anniversary, he identified the other technologies
as opto-digital imaging, medical equipment, micromachining, and
    process-saving automated systems for factories.

[If you want to read the article, go to www.eetimes.com and search
for Olympus.] So there you have it, those are the key areas Olympus
is focused on. Whether the OM system fits into any of those five
areas is anybody's guess.
