Apart from not agreeing with you on a number of points ;-)  the shutter speed 
ring 
is not the switch itself.  It is a machined piec of aluminium with square 
notches 
milled on the inside.  A sort of leaf spring forces a small ball bearing into 
the 
notches to proved the positive click-action.  There are also gear teeth milled 
in it 
which engage a gear wheel in the body, which must be where the shaft position 
sensor/switch is located.

I suspect Olympus may have varied the stiffness of the leaf spring on the Tis.
