I said that wrong. I didn't mean to imply your skill and photographic prowess,
rather more about the place. Half of a good photo is being there and the place.
The other half is skill in making the most of what is there. You excel
photographically quite well. I hope your mastery did not take too much offence?
Alaska has some great views. But dealing with some of the other aspects of AK
living... I'm seeing places like the PNW as a more amenable place to live, and
scenic. Or even CO. Or maybe the coast of Maine...? I grew up vacationing in

I made that 12 mile hike with poor ankle. Age is creeping in, but post surgery,
maybe more hikes to come before I need a walker. I quickly learned the value of
having trekking poles (which I did not on that hike). If you twist an ankle
they can be a life saver, not to mention preventing the injury in the first
place. Compared to surgery, they are cheap. I used an old pair of cross country
ski poles for a while. They work just OK, but the handle is not nearly as
ergonomic as dedicated trekking poles for hiking. And the tips were more
fragile.
From Green Lake I once (and younger) scrambled up the rocky slide to Pagoda
Mountain peak (13,497 feet), which is next to Longs Peak. Climbing the edge at
the top was not for those with fear of heights. I know what you mean by gnarly
stuff. Some peaks, or the way up, are jagged edges. Always best to be prepared.
