Joan came home from the grocery store today with a bottle of Irish whiskey.
I asked her why she did that. Her reply was that a whiskey sauce recipe
calls for Irish whiskey, so Irish whiskey she bought.

Oh, well, now we have Scotch whisky, Irish whiskey, and American whiskey in
the house. No downside, me thinks.

To your first point, some wag once said that the Scots were always waging
war, and when they weren't waging war, they were fighting amongst
themselves. Tangentially, I learned the other day that there are more
people claiming Scottish descent in North Carolina than live in Scotland.
This did not surprise me, as the population of Scotland has been deported a
number of times in recorded history.

Sing me a song of a lad that is gone,
Say, could that lad be I?
Merry of soul he sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye.

Mull was astern, Rùm on the port,
Eigg on the starboard bow;
Glory of youth glowed in his soul;
Where is that glory now?

Give me again all that was there,
Give me the sun that shone!
Give me the eyes, give me the soul,
Give me the lad that's gone!

Billow and breeze, islands and seas,
Mountains of rain and sun,
All that was good, all that was fair,
All that was me is gone.
