The OM-D bodies don't have IR receivers. Remote shutter is only through the Oly socket. The Oly solution is a $57 wired
release with a 34" cord. Third party sources provide excellent RC remotes for less money.
Soooo, the remote doesn't have to be in sight of the camera to work.
