I agree, the big bit of "wetware" between the deck and the camera is
probably the best thing to absorb any vibration from the ship.  As for any
rolling, no tripod is going to help.  In the past I've shot whales from a
much smaller boat (~15m) in a bit of a swell and got a good proportion of
keepers using an OM-1, 135mm Zuiko on K-64.  Best thing was there was no
completion for deck space as just about everyone else was inside feeling sea
sick !

I agree with the rest.  The tripod would be useless with the vibration of
the ship.  It might even make matters worse.  High shutter speeds are the
answer.  Leave the tripod at home.
