So that's what it takes to pull you out of the shadows, as it were? :-)

They do make more noise at higher speed, but of course the noise is not 
travelling as fast relative to the speed of the car and so it's not being 
projected far enough ahead to make a difference.

Yes, I have always had the opportunity to go at a reasonable speed in my little 
Mopeds of the Sky: on some of the eariler instructional sorties I show them 
what 150kts looks like when joining the circuit, for training purposes of 
course . . 

But I am retiring from the RAF next April.  I shall still fly occasionally, but 
nearly 13 years on one unit is long enough.  I shall be a Human Factors 
instructor at the Centre for Aviation Medicine for a few years.
