To upgarde the machine, there is another option - buy a used quad core CPU
(Q8400, 9400... etc) at around $70. It double your machine speed for RAW
conversion and video processing. I will put my money on CPU rather than RAM
or OS, the gain is much more visible.

I just upgraded my two sons' AMD based machine to quad core at $40 each, it
makes Canon DPP run much faster.
