Hope you're enjoying the cold and snow. What a good time to think of 
printing.

My experience mirrors your to a lesser degree. First let me disclose I don't 
have a clue what you are talking about CD and DVD's. Nothing! Otherwise, 
although my experience with HP printers in general is something like "why 
put memory card slots on such a crappy printer?" I was fortunate to get an 
HP 9180 printer at the Comp USA going out of business sale, which coincided 
with a $150 rebate offer. I got the printer, a pigment ink printer with a 
built in "profiling" feature. I've used this printer for several years, and 
been in generally quite happy. The prionting using their PS plug-in is dead 
on.

Here's why I consider the folks at HP to be idiots and a**holes. The 
plug-in, use virtually required for accurate printing, is not supported for 
CS3 or 4. Yup, that means that I keep an old version of CS2 loaded for 
printing.

Otherwise, it's good, although ink is expensive, but no more so that any 
other razor, errr printer. It tends to use light grey and light magenta at 
about twice the rate of others, maddening with those tiny cartridges.

I'd still get another.
