Rain-X.

There was one time that I thoroughly soaked my OM-2S. It was one of those
two hours in a light rain situations. The only reason why I didn't get too
worried is because it was already flaking out over another issue and the
next day it was to be sent to John H. I asked John if the water did any
damage inside the camera and he indicated that it was as clean as a whistle
(or whatever it is that a Long Islander says).

I stopped worrying about the OM cameras at that point.

The one thing I learned many years ago about cold weather shooting and I
suspect that the 25% failure rate on LL's Antarctica expedition was caused
by this. DO NOT put your camera inside your parka when out in the cold.
The air inside your parka is warm, but extremely moist. What happens is
that every time you put the camera in the warm environment, moisture forms
on the camera and due to the temperature differential inside vs outside of
the camera, moisture will be sucked right in past any seals. Then you take
the camera back out, it freezes inside the camera or ends up migrating
further inside.

If it is so cold that the batteries are giving you grief, keep a pair of
spares inside a pocket or in a bag that contains a chemical hand-warmer.
But cycling the camera inside and outside is sure to cause problems. When
I'm out shooting eagles or something in the extreme cold and I'm not near
the jeep, I will place a couple chemical hand warmers in the bag to keep the
lenses and cameras thawed out enough that the lubricant doesn't congeal to
the point where the focus rings won't turn. But this is much different than
under your parka because the inside of the bag is not damp.

But, all that said, someone is going to pipe up and say "I've put my camera
under my parka for 50 years and never had a problem."
