I was also recently asked by a co-worker to recommend a camera that is  
a bit better than the usual point and shoot but still small and light  
enough to take everywhere. I told her to consider the E420 kit--that  
way, should she later decide to get serious and get into  
interchangeable lenses, she would have that possibility.

I think the bridge cameras are neither fish nor fowl. They have  
neither the flexibility of an SLR nor the compactness of a P&S.
