I've not encountered that problem since my older 4 channel unit plugs 
are generally inserted into the backs of Alien Bees.  Even when used 
with hot shoe flashes they are connected to the PC cord that comes with 
the units that is normally used on the transmitter since my older 4 
channel units don't have PC connectors.

My one 16 channel unit (like yours) does have the PC connection so I 
guess I could run into that problem.  How about sticking them into plug 
sockets so they can't make contact.  I find this rather curious since it 
says the receiver is acting as a transmitter.
