I'm not 100pc sure it would be, AG. This of course has nothing to do with
whether or not you or I or Olympus regarding it as the "digital equivalent"
of the XA. The one thing that the C8080 isn't is overtly compact. Yes, it
isn't large but that doesn't mean it isn't small either. There is never any
doubt that the C8080 will reign as the best 8Mpix digital camera
irregardless of price. That lens alone actually costs more than the whole
camera and that is one of several reasons why it also had to be halted. The
camera was simply too costly to build. Olympus put its heart and soul into
developing, engineering and getting that damn "prosumer king" out and I
think it nearly cost them their existence. The C8080 is THAT good mainly
because the powerhouse designers were the ones who worked on developing it.

If the C8080 was a threat to the E-300, it's not the fault of the

Yes, that's true - it's not the C8080's fault. Talk about being the "fall
guy," that is exactly what transpired. The C8080's short but glorious life
will live in my heart and mind as one episode that perhaps shouldn't have
happened but it did. It is my belief that the E-300 was too hastily
released. It is also my belief that the E-300 was owed a bit more time to
hone but the rush was on to release it because there was pressure from
within to make Four-Third's presence felt in the industry. Now, I do not
wish to extend the debate on this issue and what my opinions here are just
mine.
I for one believe that the E-300 should have been better sorted out although
I love its maverick looks. It's a clear statement of individuality and I
love the fact that it took a leaf out of the Pen-F's book in design. Some
would of course say that looks are academic or immaterial and I wouldn't
want to argue with that.

I'm saddened by the passing of 2/3. It was too good, I guess.

Mmmm.....
