The ppi you called in the image has nothing to do with the dip of ink dot, 
you should always use highest dip in the printer driver to get the best 
result but an image ppi of 300 is good enough in most cases. A ppi in the 
image has to go through a very complex process to change it to the ink dot 
in the paper. Consider the ppi in image has 24 bit color each and you can 
only have 1 bit per each color on paper (either has one drop of ink or not). 
To get an idea of how it works you can try to convert a grey scale image to 
1 bit B/W image in PS with diffusion dither, to get better quality you may 
want to increase the converting dip to 600.
