OK, I'll bite. Silly how? Clearly compact cameras were going to require
smaller memory cards. CF cards are large in this context and the
technology for small cards was ready. Sony's memory sticks were too big
and not going anywhere in the market (although my new VAIO has a
built-in slot for them.). So a couple of bigish players in the compact
digicam market get together and design a small, simple card that can be
made inexpensively. Yes, a quality 1gb xD is about the same price as a
quality CF. My 1gb Oly xD card was $89.95 from B&H. At Costco a couple
of days ago, a 1gb Sandisk Ultra II CF was the same price.

OK, bite again. What's inferior about it? Other than Oly's odd format
scheme to support panoramic shots, which isn't a hardware issue. I put
it in the camera, take a lot of pics, download them and erase them from
the card. What's not to like?
