You need to look at a fully spec'd camera before making that assumption. on
the C*n*N 1D series one of the plethora of AF control options allows you to
move AF actuation from the shutter button to the 'assist' button on the
back. In effect, manual focus with power assist at will.

My experience is that, after investing time learning the AF system, going to
manual focus is less accurate and slows things down, adding no value
whatsoever.
