But "agenda" has become a name in its own right rather than the
literal translation of "things to do". my greatest sadness of the
loss of Latin from English schools is that students don't learn the
antecedents of the words that they use, and therefore have more
difficulty in understanding new vocabulary which is based on Latin
stems.

"Agenda" is really tough since it's a Latin plural but functionally a singular
in English usage. I now ignore attempts to drag Latin case endings into
English. Forums, agendas, indexes, octopuses. Latin is hard enough without
making enemies. I clearly belong in the second grade.
Content: "Olympus" is Latin for Greek "Olympos." There is only one
Olympus.:)
