Professionals in any profession use different tools for different jobs. Suitability of the tool to the job and cost effectiveness are the keys. Thus you will find professional photographers using everything from Minox (7.5mm?) to 20x24" and probably something even larger somewhere. Many discussions of the pros and cons of various formats for various purposes can be found in the archives of this List, other list on the web, in photographic books and magizines and probably in 100s of discussions going on around the world at this moment.

Just a simple example. You are looking at a 300mm lens for 35mm for £40. The lens giving an equivalent angle of view for a 6x7 camera would be about 680mm. For technical reasons having to do with the need to produce a larger image to cover teh larger film, this lens would be even bigger, heavier, and slower than a 700mm lens for 35mm and would cost thousands of £s. Thus, 35mm is a generally better format for those, like me, who like telephoto work, particularly if we like to work outdoors and away from roads (and don't have native bearers, and need the money for a new car......).

Based on what you have said about yourself, 35mm is a great format for you.

No, real professional use 8x10" negatives! :p

Actually, many professionals use middle format to get better resolution
but 4x5 is really where it's at!

OH, the negatives are that size, not the photos (duhhh). I still am
interested why you use/need a different size negative (not photo)? Is
this
the size professionals use?
