I just bought my first Olympus, an OM-1n, primarily for use in
astrophotography with my Celestron NexStar-11 GPS telescope. It came with
50mm f1.8 lens, and a Winder-2. This is the first winder I have owned for
any camera I have used, and it seems to just sound like what I expect a
winder to sound like. It will not be used at night for long exposures, but
during the daytime, it will stay on the camera, to cover the winder hole in
my OM-1n body, as the winder cap was missing when I bought it, and I have
read of potential light leaks if the hole is left uncovered, not to mention
getting dirt and debris inside the open hole.

I don't know how often I will actually use the winder drive, as I have
never minded manually advancing my film, but I have only had the camera for
about a week, and time will tell. I am at the moment exposing my first roll
of film with it, and the results will determine whether I use it strictly
as an astrocam, where shutter accuracy and light meter accuracy don't
matter, or if I use it to supplement my Minolta X-370, my other camera for
many years. the Minolta is a good camera, but I needed the mechanical
shutter and locking mirror feature (and replaceable focus screens) of the
OM1n for exposures that might last 20 or 30 minutes. The batteries in my
Minolta just won't hold the shutter open for that long! Especially on a
cold night.
