I don't recall what the date is (I think the first of the year) but at
that point all credit card terminals are required to XXXX out the last
four digits of the card number in order to reduce this kind of fraud.
Our software included this in the last update (about 9 months ago.) The
other three digits are not recorded at all by the terminals as far as I
know.

I agree that vigilance is essential. I am amazed at the amount of people
that pay their CC bills without even looking at the statement!
