Obviously you have never had a CC# stolen, now THAT is a pain in the ass!
Unlike a stolen card, you will have no idea that your number is stolen until
your card comes back declined, or you get your statement. Then you have to
deal with getting the transactions reversed, and getting a new card issued.

As for your particular problem it is hard to say what the problem might be
as far as the number coming back unconfirmed. It sounds like somebodys
terminal is not configured properly, or the processing company does not have
something set up right. Not everyone is up to speed on the three digit codes
yet, and I would guess that is the source of the problem. You could cal your
CC company and ask them, they may have an explanation/solution.

Unfortunatly the merchant has no choice in the matter, no code and the card
won't be accepted for processing.
