I'm in a pretty good position to do a comparison.  My two cars are a 2001
Corvette and a 1999 BMW 540iT.

The 'fit and finish' of the BMW is NOT better than the Corvette.  In fact,
the ergonomics are very poor on the BMW.  The radio and air conditioning
controls are extremely difficult to use, for example.  Don't get me wrong, I
love the car, but moving from one to the other does not make me question the
quality of the other.
