That is a bum deal, Tom, and there isn't much you can do about it except
clarify it in your response.
Though it would not have helped in this case, I keep two ebay IDs, one to
sell from and one to buy with. That way, as a buyer, I can potentially
leave a seller negative feedback without risk of him damaging my seller's
reputation.
The only other thing I would try to do is leave psychologically neutral
negative feedback when you have to do it. Though not as satisfying as a
nice 'zinger', it is maybe less likely to cause a retaliatory response.
