Well, without being controversial, it seems to me that the OM line is
destined for extinction. It appears all the more that systems are no

to be one of the few manufacturers to-day who still go for manual

Many supporters of 'minority' marques are worried about the long-term
viability of their favourite cameras. Examples include Leica-R and
Contax SLR; they should, by right, also include Contax-G but I don't
whether that's the case or not. Leica, at least, has a history of
providing spare parts and service back-up decades after a product has
become obsolete. The same is not true of Olympus.

I think you're right, OM could die out soon. The only hope, IMHO, is
that OM cameras will become true collectors' items and that a few
craftsmen, such as we have on this list, will be willing and able to
make a living maintaining and repairing them. Spares will eventually
run out and replacement parts will then have to be 'canibalized' from
otherwise defunct cameras. This will reduce the number of OM cameras in
circulation. I expect it to happen in my lifetime (I'm only 55), so I
wouldn't consider it wise for a young person to start building up an OM
system from scratch now. This is only my opinion and I'm sure there are
others who see it differently.
