Boris,
As far as the spam which you seem to attribute to this mail list, I
think that you might be a bit premature. I don't know for sure about
the others at this time but I have not received anything like what you
describe. As far as the others, in the past, on or two items seems to
bring out every deep lurker and there is always quite a clamor on the
list. This has not happened in this case and we all know that, if
there's one thing that we aren't, it's bashful. That being said, I
think that you might retrace the logic that brought you to that
conclusion and check out other possible sources for this contamination.
As to your feelings about eBay, eBay is not for everybody. You have
to look for what is not being said as well as what is stated. What is
the sellers feedback rating, is it too good to be true? do all the
seller's other items have a picture but the one you want? Be critical,
be suspicious, try to think of a way that defects can be hidden and then
ask questions of the seller that will reveal the defects. Above all,
don't fall in love with any one item, be fully able to say no and turn
your back on an item. This is the hard one for us on this list. And
lastly but not leastly, even if it does say Olympus on it, they did, in
fact, make more than one of everything. So, the likelihood of another
one of them coming along is actually quite high.
I just had a hard time with this one myself with the recently listed
Olympus 135mm f4.5 Macro lens on eBay.
YMMV &IMHO,
Rand E.
