I dunno, Jim,

When I removed the batteries and tripped the shutter release, the diaphragm
stopped down but the shutter curtains froze until I moved the metering
switch to "CHECK-RESET" (I'm glad I figured that out - I was a bit concerned
for a moment).  When using the self-timer, the mirror doesn't flip until the
shutter trips.  I think I read that the mirror on the OM2-S models locked up
when the timer was activated, though.

Anyway, thanks very much for the reponse...and the link to the manuals, too.
