Never heard of Freeman Patterson?! I figured he was pretty well known by 
now, but maybe it's just in Canada. I do recommend looking him up - his 
books are excellent! While his writing can be kind of dry, I find his photos 
nearly always make up for it. He does have quite a recognisable style, which 
may not be to your tastes, but is certainly worth checking out.
His are some of the few photo books to be used by our Fine Art students 
here...
